A wide-field SHO view of M16, highlighting the iconic Pillars of Creation within the much larger Eagle Nebula. I wanted to preserve the wider context rather than concentrate solely on the Pillars, bringing out the sweeping dust structures, glowing emission and rich stellar field surrounding them. Processing focused on depth and fine structure, with the classic SHO palette separating the warm golds from the cooler cyan and blue regions while keeping the stars restrained. The delicate-looking Pillars are, in reality, immense columns of gas and dust spanning several light-years—a remarkable stellar nursery being sculpted by radiation and winds from nearby young stars.
