The Crab Nebula (M1, NGC 1952) is a famous supernova remnant located 6,500 light-years away in the constellation Taurus, resulting from a stellar explosion (SN 1054) observed in 1054. The nebula is about 11 light-years in diameter and is expanding at a speed of 1,500 km/s. At its center is a pulsar (neutron star) rotating 30 times.
