PN or not, a very cool discovery! Congrats

Thanks mate! We should create an Oiii anonymous club so we can talk about  our discovery insecurities and rejection issues 😂😂

Awesome image and research!  There's got to be an explanation for an isolated cloud of oxygen hanging out by itself in a sea of hydrogen... seems like a probable PN to me.  NGC 6337 looks great as well.

Thanks rhedden! Yes we thought the same… that center star seemed like the plausible explanation at this stage

The cool looking red background comes from H-Alpha filter, right?

Steeve Body 11 months ago
Thank you! Yes the red is a sea of hydrogen where there this patch of Oiii seems to be hanging out

Very interesting, considering the potential central star. Congratulations!

Awesome image and discovery guys!

It really is amazing at just how much of the night sky is full of hidden OIII gems like this one, and how many are being discovered now.

Love the sea of red with the Phantom Stinger Nebula standing out with it's striking blue colour!

Thank you so much Zac! I know right! Throughout my life I have loved reading books written by sailors and explorers telling their stories, their first encounters with a new land and civilisations... I always wondered what this would have felt like... I guess doing this in a way gives us a small taste of that!  I think we got to thank pioneer @Marcel Drechsler and his team for inspiring us all to look where no body else is looking

Yes I agree, books written by sailors and explorers telling people their experiences were (and still are) very fascinating! Absolutely, it's so amazing to see everyone having a crack at shooting OIII objects now that big discoveries have been slowly making their way online. Defintely agree with you about @Marcel Drechsler and all of the other amazing people that are thinking outside of the box imaging new objects!

Nicely done! Seems there are a lot of previously unknown O3-rich nebulae out there waiting to be uncovered by diligent amateurs - citizen science in action, love it.

Thanks Andy! Indeed, it have learnt a lot with the team looking for these objects..! Maybe the next trend will be Sulphur...? Sulphur Hunter... Uhmmm I like that name
