On November 30, 2024, I accidently spotted asteroid 13 Egeria passing through the field of view near the Northern Trifid Neblua (NGC 1579), a bright emission nebula in the constellation Perseus.

Asteroid 13 Egeria is a sizable main-belt asteroid, measuring approximately 214 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on November 2, 1850, by Italian astronomer Annibale de Gasparis and named after Egeria, the Roman goddess associated with wisdom and prophecy. Orbiting the Sun between Mars and Jupiter, Egeria follows a path with a semi-major axis of about 2.66 astronomical units (AU) and completes one orbit roughly every 4.45 years.   Egeria shines at an apparent magnitude of approximately 10.9, and it's movement across the sky is relatively slow, covering about 21.94 arcminutes per day.
