Description
Actually, when originally released back in Japan in 1979 , it was called Puck Man and not Pacman...But that's another shining relict of history and far less old then this one.
NGC 281 is another one of Edward Emerson Barnard's discoveries dating back to August of 1883. It is an intriguing emission nebula with many small Bok Globules and an open cluster IC 1590.
The Pacman Nebula is estimated to lie some 9500 LY from Earth in the constellation Cassiopeia.
