Description
(Hi, I would enjoy continuing to post to AB, it has my initials after all. :) Please become a follower and support my efforts- thanks.)
As a child with my Astroscan (a small reflector telescope) I recall seeing M78 visually from my driveway in Georgia. Two mysterious gray fuzzy stars near the belt stars of Orion...
Today I am able to capture pictures like this which surpass the ability of my young eyes (or *any* eyes). Yet the mysteries are in no way diminished... This is a two-frame mosaic in regular red/green/blue colors. Be certain to click on the largest view at the page linked above. Herbig-Haro jets abound, McNeil's nebula is absent, and many other features scintillate. In particular the jet and structure of Herbig-Haro 24 (in the middle of the lower dark cloud) is amazing. I hope this adds a little interest to the middle of your week.
