Description
LDN 1235, also known as the "Dark Shark Nebula," is a striking dark nebula located in the constellation Cepheus. This interstellar cloud of gas and dust is part of the larger Cepheus Flare region and is notable for its shape, which resembles a shark swimming through the cosmos.
The nebula is characterized by its dense, opaque dust that obscures the light from the stars behind it, making it appear as a dark silhouette against the brighter background of the Milky Way. Within this region, subtle hints of reflection nebulosity can be seen where the dust reflects the light from nearby stars. LDN 1235 is a popular target for astrophotographers due to its unique appearance and the challenge it presents in capturing the fine details of its dark structure.
The LDN 1235 nebula, while primarily known for its dark, shark-like appearance, also contains regions of faint reflection nebulae, adding depth and complexity to its structure. These reflections occur as nearby starlight bounces off the dust within the nebula, creating a subtle glow that contrasts with the surrounding darkness.
This was my very first time processing LRGB data, and for my first image im pretty proud of how it turned out. Hoping to get lots of new images with my new setup.
Clear skies!
