Description
NGC 7640 is a barred spiral galaxy located in the constellation Andromeda, approximately 30 million light-years away. A distinctive feature of such galaxies is that their spiral arms do not extend from a circular core, but rather radiate from a long bar-like structure that runs through the center of the galaxy. Since the galaxy's edge faces toward Earth, it is not easy to tell from photos that it is a spiral galaxy.
