Description
Messier 45, commonly known as the Pleiades or Seven Sisters, is an open star cluster located in the constellation Taurus. It is one of the closest and most visible star clusters to Earth, at a distance of about 440 light-years. The Pleiades is known for its bright blue stars, which are hot and young, having formed around 100 million years ago. Surrounded by a faint reflection nebula, the cluster contains hundreds of stars, but seven are the most prominent to the naked eye. The Pleiades has been a significant object in various cultures' mythology and navigation throughout history.
